home application

Applying adhesive vinyl labels to your items at home;

Step 1: Prepare the area you wish to apply your decal

Clean the area thoroughly we advise using soapy water and thoroughly dry with a microfibre cloth to ensure there is no dust or oils that will prevent the decal from adhering properly.

If you are applying your decal to a wood product please skip the soap and water step and make sure you dust/buff the item thoroughly with a microfibre cloth.

Step 2: Prepare the decal for application

When you receive your decals you will see that they not only have a backing tape (usually white) but also a transfer tape which is clear and lays over the top. You will need to make sure the decal is firmly adhered to the transfer tape, to do this firmly rub a 'credit card' over the tape to remove any air bubbles. Its best to only rub in one direction then stop and rub firmly in another rather than back and forth as you do not want to cause any damage to the decal itself.

Step 3: Preparing for transfer

You will need to remove the backing tape by peeling it away slowly. If you find at some of your decal is not sticking to the transfer tape you will need to slowly replace the backing tape and repeat to Step 2.

Step 4: Transferring decal

You will now have your decal fully off the backing tape and can now slowly place you decal on its desired area. Please note that decals are semi permanent so they are not easy to remove and replace once down so make sure you are taking your time to position your decals. You will then need to rub over the decal with the 'credit card' or finger to help it to adhere securely. We recommend that you then leave the decal (with the transfer tape on) to set for a minimum of 1 hour or up to 24 hours before moving onto step 5.

Step 5: Removing the transfer tape

After the decal has been left to set the transfer tape can be removed. The best way to do this is to start at a top corner and slowly pull back at an angle. Be careful not to remove any of the decal when doing this if that does happen stop, replace the transfer tape and repeat Step 4. Please be extremely careful when applying your decals as we accept no responsibility for damage that may occur when being applied.

Iron on decals –

Heat transfer vinyl works best on cotton, canvas or polyester or cotton/poly blends. Other synthetic fabrics, like acrylics or leather, won't work correctly because they will melt under the heat of an iron.

Step 1:

Preheat your iron to 150-170 degrees or just below a cotton setting should be fine. Turn off the steam!

Step 2 :

Use a lint roller to ensure the area you want to apply the decal onto is clean.

Step 3 :

Iron the garment or item before to remove any creases.

Step 4 :

Remove the paper from the decal, so you are left with the lettering on the frosted plastic.

Step 5 :

Place your decal onto the item you are transferring it onto. Ensuring it is in the place you want it applied to.

Step 6 :

If you have greaseproof paper it is ideal to use over the top just for a bit of protection.

Step 7 :

Place the iron on top of the decal/ greaseproof paper and press firmly for 20-30 seconds. Do not move the iron around. If you have a longer word, then lift the iron after the time and repeat on the remaining area.

Step 8 :

Leave it to cool for 10-15 seconds.

Step 9 :

You can now start to remove the frosted plastic sheet. Hold the material down and peel back the plastic. Please be extremely careful as this may be warm to touch still. When removing the plastic please take your time, if it is not adhered the plastic will not come away easily. We will take no responsibility if the decal is torn or pulled.

If you find that it hasn’t adhered fully then repeat steps 6-8.

Step 10 :
When the plastic can be removed fully, place the greaseproof paper back over the decal and repeat step 7. (If you do not have greaseproof paper you can simply turn the garment over the area the decal has been applied and repeat step 7.)
